Class Digitools  Week 4   Task 5

Lesson Plan  -  Presentations

Resources: 1 You Tube  Steve Jobs  (clear, prepared, slow, slides, repetition, jokes, questions)    www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5yRhOSL_-c&feature=related

Class level: Intermediate +   adults

Time frame: 2x 1hr classes

Objectives: Work on basic, simple first-time presentations  - speech & communication skills, activity preparation,  body language awareness
                     Listening skills
                     Peer correction & advising
                     Focus on clear speech, self recording
WebTech skills – use of tools, blogs & embedding

Precedure
1st class: 
  • Listening & watching  a quick, simple presentation example on You Tube
  • Class brainstorming about which qualities are needed for such an exercise  Ideas about: introductions, outlines, signalling, the importance of repetition, endings, saying goodbye, question time, communication & contact with the audience etc...
  • Teacher hands out quick subjects to work on e.g. food, the weather, tennis…
  • Students work in pairs to each develop a first, basic presentation on one of the subjects. They practise in front of each other – auto and peer correction without the stress of being in front of the whole class or the teacher.
  • Homework:  Choose a subject based on something they like or know about. Prepare 3 main ideas for a short presentation in the next class. Possibility of bringing in 3 photos or PP slides on a memory stick
2nd class:
  • give their new presentation without slides / photos in small groups of 2 or 3 to warm-up
  • In computer room – sign up into Knovio   -  show how to upload photos/slides
  • Record own presentations with/out video & slides/photos  review & correct
  • Embed the presentation into the class blog
  • Homework – listen to the other students’ presentations

Future work on longer, more complicated presentations / group presentations
